Where Can a Custom Wet Bar Be Added?

One of the biggest advantages of a custom wet bar is its versatility. While many homeowners picture a basement bar, these spaces can be incorporated throughout different areas of your home to better support everyday living and entertaining.

Popular locations include:

During your consultation, we'll evaluate your home's layout and discuss the best location based on plumbing access, traffic flow, and your envisioned use of the space. Whether your project is part of a larger remodel or a standalone addition, we'll help you create a wet bar that feels integrated into your home's overall design.

What a Full-Gut Wet Bar Build Actually Includes

If you're ready to add a dedicated bar or beverage space to your home, the right craftsmanship makes all the difference. Walsh's Remodeling provides custom wet bar remodeling in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, managing every step of the project with precision to create a space that's functional, beautiful, and built to last.

A well-built wet bar starts long before the cabinetry is installed. Depending on the project, walls may need to be opened to accommodate new plumbing, electrical work, and structural improvements before custom cabinetry, countertops, lighting, and finishes can be installed. It's a comprehensive remodeling project designed for lasting performance.

The scope of a wet bar build typically covers:

  • Plumbing rough-in, including drain and supply lines

  • Sink installation and connection

  • Custom cabinetry built and fitted to the space

  • Countertop fabrication and installation

  • Open shelving, closed storage, or a combination

  • Undercabinet and accent lighting

  • Flooring as part of the full build, where applicable

  • All finished work and trim

We handle permitting on every project, so you won't need to coordinate with the city or county on your own. The build moves forward as a single managed process from start to finish.

Built Around How You Actually Use the Space

The decision to add a wet bar often comes from the way your home—and your lifestyle—has evolved. Maybe you're entertaining more often and want to keep guests out of the kitchen. Maybe you're finishing a basement or transforming a bonus room into a space for relaxing and gathering. Whatever the reason, a thoughtfully designed wet bar adds convenience, functionality, and a natural gathering place that enhances how you use your home.

We work with clients across a range of configurations:

  • A dedicated home bar with a full sink and refrigeration access

  • A basement beverage station within a larger finished space

  • A butler's pantry-style serving area off the main living or dining room

  • An open-concept wet bar integrated into a living room layout

If your project involves a broader basement build, our finished basement remodeling work often incorporates the wet bar as part of the full scope rather than as a standalone addition.

Common Questions About Wet Bar Remodeling

In most cases, yes. Any time a wet bar build involves running new plumbing, that work typically triggers a permit requirement. Walsh's handles the permitting process from start to finish.

It depends on the plumbing access and structural conditions in your space. Some builds require opening walls to run new lines. The honest answer comes during the in-home consultation once we've seen the space.

A complete wet bar build covers plumbing, cabinetry, countertop fabrication, lighting, and finish work. Flooring is often part of the scope as well. This is a structural build that integrates into the home's plumbing system.

We work alongside your designer, if you have one, or we can refer you to a designer who fits your vision. Walsh's guides you through material selections and translates design intent into a finished build. If you arrive with a general vision, the consultation clarifies decisions before work begins.

Many homes in the Charlottesville area have older plumbing or electrical systems that sometimes need updating to current code. Walsh's full-gut approach surfaces these issues before they become mid-project surprises. You get an accurate scope from the start rather than discovering problems after walls open.

Happy Homeowners

Beautiful Homes

As first-time homeowners who have never done a construction project, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Miles and his team were transparent from start to finish, always happy to answer our (many, many) questions and guide us through the process. They were professional, tidy, and easy to talk to. We felt at ease the whole way through, and the finished basement turned out better than we imagined. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful experience with our master bathroom remodeling done by Miles Walsh & his team. They were very professional, always on time & kept a clean work area. Miles made helpful recommendations & presented us with several options. We were so pleased with that project that we had them do our kitchen backsplash. We recommend Miles & his team for your home remodeling needs.

Kathleen McKenzie

I highly recommend Walsh's remodeling as I have to my friends and neighbors. I remodeled three and a half bathrooms which would have been a daunting task without their guidance. The team's work Is monitored by Genevieve and Miles, who also works with the team who are efficient, experienced, and dedicated.

Miles Walsh Renovations did an excellent job updating our kitchen. We replaced the backsplash, countertops, and the sink. Miles suggested under the cabinet lights. I am truly glad he did them. It's a great aid during food prep. The team came at the time they stated and were very good with cleanup after work. They were easy to talk with, really nice people. They had lots of patience answering our questions. I definitely highly recommend Mile Walsh Renovations.

I can't say enough good things about Miles and his team. From the first communication to the last, this was the easiest process I could have imagined. We did a total remodel of our main bathroom, and also put in recessed lighting in our family room and kitchen. The project took a total of 3 weeks, and every day Miles and his team showed up at 8am on the dot and left at 5pm, with everything completely cleaned up for the day (very helpful with young kids who could get into anything left out!). Miles was unbelievably communicative and responsive every step of the way, and always responded to any texts and emails right away. He made sure everything I wanted to order would work for the space, and ordered everything himself after I sent links over. When Miles discovered that we had some issues with dangerous electrical wiring that already existed in our home, Miles identified the problem and went above and beyond to fix it. I really could go on and on, but all I can say is I wish I could just keep Miles on retainer so he could fix or update every bit of our house! Too bad he books out so early, but he deserves all the business he gets. If I could give 10 stars, I would. I will absolutely be using Miles in the future for any home renovation projects.

Walsh’s Remodeling just completed the renovation of two bathrooms in our home. Working on the project with Miles Walsh, from the planning, design, selection of materials and the final estimate stages, right through to the construction and finished product was an absolute pleasure. Miles and his crew were professional, attentive to detail, responsive to our input and the changes we elected to make, and were always respectful of our property and personal schedules. Of particular importance to us was the fact that Miles and his crew performed every aspect of our project; painting, tile work, plumbing, electrical, etc., thereby no delays waiting for subcontractors were experienced. The project completion date estimate was met with precision and a comprehensive walk-thru at the completion of the project revealed a virtually flawless end result. Frankly, we were so happy with the way the project went and in the beautiful results, that we have asked Walsh’s Remodeling to come back in the fall to remodel yet another bathroom. Overall, a great job!

We are absolutely thrilled with the work that Miles and his crew did- our 3 remodeled bathrooms are stunning, and the highlights of our home! Every time we walk into our master bath, we keep exclaiming over how luxurious and gorgeous everything is! Not only is their work at a high level, but it was really pleasant to work with Miles and Genevieve through the process- they were both quick to respond to questions or concerns we had. Their crew is a great group of people as well- everyone was super friendly, happy to answer questions we had if Miles wasn't around, and very respectful of our privacy and space. We would recommend Walsh's Remodeling to everyone we know, and we plan to work with them again for future remodeling needs.

It doesn't get better than Walsh's Remodeling. Take it from someone familiar with home remodels (I've extensively remodeled all three of my last houses). Walsh's Remodeling was hands down the most punctual, detail-oriented, knowledgeable, and skilled remodeling company I have ever worked with. Their team was always polite and professional. They never questioned a request or shrugged off a concern. In this day of remote working, it's also nice to find a remodeling company that considers your zoom schedule. They would always let us know ahead of time if things were going to get loud so we could plan accordingly, and if we needed them to not be loud for an hour, they would accommodate without question. Their team is exceptionally skilled in electrical, plumbing, tiling, and installation. They're a one-stop shop! If they can't do it, they know an exceptionally skilled person that can. They take pride in their work, and it shows. I'll be using them again for sure.
